The Stratagem Files

Follow the money. Question the truth. Kelley Stark and Emily Huff investigate crimes engineered to look legitimate—frauds hidden inside markets, technologies, institutions, and governments. Each case turns financial evidence into a global race against people powerful enough to rewrite the record.

Meet the Characters

The crimes may be global, but the heart of the series is personal: two brilliant women who see the same evidence differently, challenge one another relentlessly, and care more deeply than either readily admits.

Kelley Stark

Founder and analytical force

Kelley is exceptionally intelligent, direct, and uninterested in small talk or social games. She sees finance as a living anatomy: every process, control, settlement, batch, and back-office dependency has a place, and she understands what moves first and what breaks next. Her formidable emotional boundaries can read like an iron veil, but beneath them is a fiercely loyal and sensitive woman whose trust is rare, deliberate, and profound.

Emily Huff

Coding mind and quiet strength

Emily is smart as a whip, naturally funny, and disarmingly kind. Where Kelley maps systems analytically, Emily thinks like a builder and coder, finding the logic hidden inside technology and data. She sometimes underestimates her own ability, yet that absence of ego is one of her greatest strengths: she listens, notices, and solves problems others miss. Her softness is genuine, but so is the exceptional strength beneath it.

Michael T. De Gaglia

Professor, financial expert, and occasional adviser

Appearing in a fictional cameo role, Michael brings decades of market experience, an instinct for people, and a fascination with the psychology of money. Kelley and Emily can explain how the machinery works; he often asks why someone would build, manipulate, or fear it. His unconventional questions and out-of-the-box perspective help expose motives and human blind spots that even the most precise analysis can overlook.

The Recurring Ensemble

Brittany, Gina, and Brianna return throughout the series as colleagues, allies, and human counterweights to the intensity of each investigation. Their humor, observations, and loyalties remind the team that no financial crime is merely a collection of numbers.

Anne remains woven into Stratagem’s emotional history, her choices and survival leaving consequences that travel far beyond a single case. Ravi reappears when specialized knowledge or an unexpected connection gives the investigation a new direction.

A note on the characters: Kelley Stark, Emily Huff, and the supporting cast are fictional creations and are not based on any real person. Michael T. De Gaglia appears only as a fictionalized author cameo; the plots, dialogue, institutions, and events are works of fiction.
